Gray and yellow is a popular color combination for home decor. From bedrooms to kitchens, yellow has made it’s way back into designers’ arsenals in a big way. It’s versatile, in that the combination can be used in a variety of design styles. Soft gray and yellow can provide a beautiful palette for a neutral nursery or a soothing master bedroom.  The gray and yellow color combination can also lend itself to a super contemporary living room or a farmhouse style kitchen. Another great design trait is gray and yellow can be the main focus of a room (yellow walls, gray sofa, yellow & white rug) or it can merely be an accent or highlight in a more eclectic design. Mixing gray and yellow with other neutrals like white or brown can really create an interesting look, as can the addition of teal or turquoise accents.

Gray and Yellow Play Nice With Other Colors

Working with yellow and gray accents can be as simple as adding some new throw pillows to your couch or as creative as lining your gray walls with a vertical band of wallpaper behind a desk or console table. Adding additional colors to the gray and yellow combination adds visual interest and fun to any project. Some of my favorites are a yellow gold with gray and greige or brown. (Not sure greige is an actual word but it totally should be…gray + beige = greige). Teal or turquoise is another good accent to add to the gray and yellow mix.

Gray and Yellow Can Be Such a Tease

If you’re afraid to commit to an entire room of gray and yellow, try adding in a few accents (teasers) like a fun chair, table runner or groovy clock. Accessory pieces are a great way to experiment with a trend or color without completely overhauling a space. Accessory & accent pieces can be easily swapped out once the love affair has ended. No hard feelings. It’s you, not me. 🙂
